Aromatherapy — Level 6 (QLS)
Overview
This programme develops advanced aromatherapy competence for wellness, spa and complementary practice. Learners study essential-oil chemistry, GC/MS quality analysis, safe dilution and contraindications, blending and formulation, and system-based applications (respiratory, musculoskeletal, dermatological, nervous/endocrine). Strong emphasis is placed on client consultation, case-note keeping, inter-professional referral, and ethical practice.

Core Modules
- Essential-Oil Chemistry I–II: terpenes, alcohols, esters, phenols; chemotypes, volatility, stability.
- Extraction, Sourcing & Quality: distillation, CO₂ extracts, absolutes; GC/MS interpretation; adulteration risks.
- Safety, Toxicology & Ethics: contraindications, dermal limits, phototoxicity, sensitisation, pregnancy & paediatrics, medications interactions; scope of practice and consent.
- Consultation & Casework: intake forms, SOAP notes, red flags, referral and inter-professional communication.
- Blending & Formulation: carriers, emulsifiers, hydrolats; dilution math; therapeutic synergies for rollers, balms, compresses, diffusion and baths.
- System-Based Applications: respiratory, immune, musculoskeletal, dermatological, digestive, nervous/endocrine, women’s health.
- Clinical & Spa Protocols: treatment planning, hygiene, room setup, product stability, client after-care.
- Professional Practice & Business: policies, insurance, data protection, marketing collateral, pricing and stock control.
- Research & Evidence: reading studies, outcome measures, documenting case series ethically.
Assessment & Evidence
- Case portfolio (e.g., 10–12 documented cases with outcomes and reflective notes).
- OSCE/practical assessment: consultation, blend creation, protocol delivery, after-care.
- Formulation workbook (calculations, safety limits, stability testing).
- Short written assignments on chemistry, quality and safety.
- Final capstone: system-specific protocol or small case-series with analysis.
Study Mode & Duration
- Full-Time: 9–12 months

Entry Requirements
- Academic: Level 5 (or equivalent experience) in a related wellness/health field preferred.
- English: Typically CEFR B2 (or equivalent).
- Compliance: Signed ethics and safety declaration; access to a suitable practice environment for casework.
Progression & Careers
Graduates can progress to Level 7 (e.g., Holistic Naturopathy or advanced clinical modalities) or work across wellness clinics, spas, integrative practices, and product formulation labs. Skills align with client-centred practice, case documentation and inter-professional collaboration.
